Steller Sea lions are a member of the Otariidae family or eared seal. They
have an external
ear that can be closed for diving and rear flippers which point forward.
True seals (Phocidae)
have no external ear and their flippers point backward. Steller sea lions
swim with their
front flippers while seals swim with their rear flippers.
