We have just returned from photoshoots featuring Yellowstone National Park, the South Dakota badlands and points west. The trip was very successful and I am
pleased to be able to add a number of very beautiful images to my portfolio. Yellowstone has long been a place I have wanted to visit and photograph and I
I wasn't disappointed! The landscapes are unlike any other and the wildlife is abundant. We were fortunate enough to be able to plan our stay to
coincide with the elk rut which is in itself an amazing natural event to see and hear. The bull elk were a magnificent sight with their large racks and to stand on
a mountainside and hear them bugle through an early morning mist was an experience not soon forgotten.
Snow caps the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
The landscapes of Yellowstone are varied and in places almost surreal. From the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone with it's spectacular views to
the many hotsprings, geyser basins and other thermal features, it offers a wide variety of photo opportunities. Upon first arriving in Yellowstone,
I found myself almost overwhelmed by the abundance and diversity of subject matter. After a couple of days exploring in the park and observing the behavior of the
resident wildlife I was able to plan shoots featuring the various locations I wanted to revisit and get an idea as to lighting and time of day to achieve the desired photos.
From our home base just outside the northern entrance in Gardiner, Montana we planned our day according to what subjects we wanted to focus on and
made our equipment selections based on this. Long telephoto lenses and the appropriate support to capture stunning wildlife images or wide to mid lengths
for landscapes. Lenses used ranged from the monster Sigma 300-800 super zoom to Canon's 16-35 wide angle. Canon's 28-70, 70-200 and 300 IS were
used for the majority of landscapes while the big Sigma and the Canon 100-400IS were the mainstays for wildlife.
I will be adding photos from Yellowstone and other points in our trip throughout the next few months. I hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed
capturing them for you!

The Watkins Gallery new show "Small Wonders" will offer works from the galleries artists including yours truly.

I am pleased to have had one of my photos chosen as the cover for the premier issue of "The Model" magazine, a professional publication in the UK. They will also be using
two more photographs for their June and September issues. They have been hard at work getting this project of the ground and I wish them the very best in future endeavors.
We are in the planning stages of a number of exciting photo shoots for the upcoming year. First we will be returning to the wonderful shores of Lake Michigan. The sunsets
along the eastern shores are unsurpassed in beauty and I always look forward to time spent there.
We are also planning a shoot in the Northeast, to include northern Maine as well as Northeastern Canada. The rugged coastline of the Atlantic abounds with
opportunities for atmospheric photographs and for me a chance to revisit places I enjoyed in my childhood as well as explore the lands of our northern neighbors.

If all goes as planned fall should find us shooting landscapes and wildlife in Yellowstone National Park and the Sierra Nevada's. This is a trip I have been looking forward to for
some time!
The studio has been busy lately with many projects and ideas being completed. A recent shoot involved a chambered nautilus shell which had been halved to show it's interior.
I think you will find the resulting photos to be quite remarkable. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

We have joined with two stock photo agencies to offer our work to photo buyers and look forward to working with them in the future. Photos may also be purchased, or licensed for publication
directly from the photographer. For more details see our contact page.

It has been an exciting time for us. We've recently had a 1/2 page photo published in "Acres" an international magazine put out by New Holland Publications.
We are also anticipating a cover image from the premier issue of a British publication entitled "The Model".

The Watkins Gallery has moved from Lenox to 142 Main Street in Northampton, MA. Their debut opening was March 5th to a large and appreciative audience.
We have a number of prints in the gallery and are looking forward to a June show. Please stop in and enjoy the art on display.

I have been busy working in the studio and editing photos from a number of shoots. In the next few weeks I will be adding a number of galleries to the website featuring works
from the studio.

While editing photos for a recent magazine request I came across a number of images which feature wildflowers both close-up and as part of the environment. I will be working on adding a gallery
of these beautiful scenes in the next few days. Check back often, you won't want to miss these wonderful examples of nature's majesty.
